Mass Intention Requests

The tradition of offering Masses for others, particularly our deceased family and friends, finds its origins in the earliest days of the Church. As Catholics, we believe the Mass is the highest and most privileged form of prayer for it encompasses the Eucharistic sacrifice: the source and summit of our faith (CCC #1324-1327). Saint Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical “Ecclesia de Eucharistia,” taught:

In the celebration of the Eucharistic Sacrifice, the Church prays that God, the Father of mercies, will grant His children the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that they may become one body and one spirit in Christ. In raising this prayer to the Father of lights, from whom comes every good endowment and every perfect gift, the Church believes that she will be heard, for she prays in union with Christ her Head and Spouse, who takes up this plea of His Bride and joins it to His own redemptive sacrifice. (No. 43)

Here, at Saint Peter Cathedral, as in all churches within the Diocese of Erie, we continue this noble tradition. As part of this tradition, we ask that you make a small donation for each Mass intention you schedule ($10) (Canon 946).

You can request a Mass to be said for a living or deceased loved one in one of two ways depending on your donation payment method:

  1. Credit/Debit Card or Bank ACH: If you plan on paying with a credit/debit card or a deduction directly from your bank account, you can use our online platform to request multiple mass times in a single transaction.
  2. Check: If you are unable to make your payment online, you can download and print a paper copy of our Mass Intention Request Form. You can then either mail the form to the Parish Office with your donation check or drop it off during normal business hours. Please make sure your donation check is included with the form. Your Mass intentions will not be scheduled until your donation is received.
