Since the laying of its cornerstone in 1875, Saint Peter Cathedral’s history contains a rich tapestry of sacred and secular events.

Various architectural and artistic elements are present within Saint Peter Cathedral whose purpose is not only to enhance the beauty of this house of worship but also provide a visual means to teach our Catholic Faith.

Located beneath the high altar, the Bishops’ Crypt is the final earthly resting place of many past shepherds of the Diocese of Erie.

Music has played an important role within the Catholic liturgy since the earliest days of the Church. Saint Peter Cathedral continues this tradition through the use of chant, polyphony, and contemporary choral works.

The pipe organ is more than just an instrument; it is a powerful symbol of the Church itself. Just as an organ’s many pipes come together to create a harmonious sound, so too do the diverse members of the Church unite in worship. Saint Peter Cathedral is blessed with two instruments, both built by Casavant Frères of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
